Of course, hindsight gives you a completely different picture, but now that WSS is not going to be Tony-eligible in any season, it's too bad that they didn't allow themselves to be eligible last year. I think that Isaac Powell might well have won against Aaron Tveit, and the show as a whole would likely have gotten a lot of nominations, given how few musicals were Tony-eligible last season.
Not that it matters because I imagine someone would have to file paperwork to make this happen, but I wonder if the show is technically still eligible for the 2021-2022 season anyway, even if it never re-opens. It may rest on whether any new nominators for this season happen to have seen the show last season, and whether there are any new Tony voters this season. I would imagine the show has fulfilled all the other requirements except making sure that the nominators and voters are invited to see the show at some point. |
