Did ''West Side Story'' really have a choice in the matter? No doubt it would've gotten a lotta nominations (though I still think Aaron Tveit would've won over Isaac Powell). But I was under the impression that ''West Side Story'' wasn't Tony-eligible because not enough Tony nominators had seen it and/or the Tony voters hadn't been invited by the Tony cutoff date of Feb. 19. ... ''West Side Story'' was originally supposed to open Feb. 6; due to Powell's knee injury, its opening was delayed 2 weeks to Feb. 20. Maybe it might've been Tony-eligible had it opened Feb. 6, but who knows? ...
I'm sad for Powell and a cast that would've represented numerous Broadway debuts. |
