She sounded lovely in "My Fair Lady" on the recording. Plus there was a certain quality she had as Claire on "Six Feet Under" which might have made for a very interesting Fanny Brice. Even Laura Benanti seemed to be directed to be not very forceful and underpowered in the "Show Me" number when I saw her in the role. Now, Laura Benanti sure can play comedy, as her Melania was a hoot on Stephen Colbert's show
With a revised book by Harvey Fierstein, Fanny is sure to end up loving herself sometime in the 2nd act! |
