With Mayer directing and Firestein revising the book I don't have very high expectations for this production.
I've mostly enjoyed Mayer's Broadway work that I've seen, it's more his foray into opera that's been ragged IMO. (I feel the same with Bartlett Sher's work.)
I'm not sure who "Firestein" is, but although I've also run a bit hot and cold with Mr. Fierstein's work (his book for La Cage being particularly disappointing to me), but I'm eager to see what he will do here with a book that I do think needs some help. (I'm much less enthused to see what Mr. Beane is going to do to Babes in Arms, after that really odd "Topher" musical he wrote a few years back.)
