Don (The Donz) Giller is reporting on Twitter that Tony Mendez, David Letterman's longtime cue card man and comic foil, has passed.

Performing under the name Bryan Nicholas, Tony appeared on Broadway in PIPPIN, IRENE, DANCIN' and KING OF HEARTS, as well as an international tour of EVITA.

(Longtime "Late Show with David Letterman" viewers will remember an episode where Dave re-introduced Tony to guest Debbie Reynolds, showing her a photo of Tony standing behind her in a scene from IRENE.)

In the early 2000s the Late Show had a table for several years at the annual Broadway Flea Market, selling props and memorabilia from the show. Tony manned the table, and I remember buying a cue card from him that I gave as a gift to a friend who was a big Letterman fan.

No cause of death has been reported. He was in his mid-70s.
