| I'm really interested in what Billy Porter is doing with The Life. With Chuck Cooper (who I LOVED in the original) being billed as "Old JoJo," I am guessing the show is being told in flashback. Or perhaps it was always set up as a flashback and my memory is failing me. | |

| Unless my memory too is failing, THE LIFE was not told in flashback, although JoJo(Sam Harris)functioned as a kind of narrator. I agree about Cooper being terrific; it was the of what has proved to be a great many times I've had the pleasure of seeing and hearing him. |

| When I saw The Life on Broadway in '97, the show began with Sam Harris as JoJo addressing the audience about how Disney and Mickey Mouse have cleaned up Times Square so the time is apparently 1997. Then we are taken back to the 1980's when things were quite different. | |

| I definitely remember the line about Disney and Mickey Mouse. So perhaps, they are just keeping that beginning in the "present day." That would mean the a 40 year "flashback" However they do it, I'm excited just to hear that score again. Lilias White did her cabaret act at my theatre before the shutdown and did "The Oldest Profession" as her character from "The Life." She is such a powerhouse |

| I'm excited by all the casting announced except one. Borle as the Baker?! What an aggressively boring and predictable choice for this role. I'm honestly surprised Lear was interested in him for this role at all. Also, the broadway community is far too reliant or in love with casting him. Enough. Give someone else a chance. Find some new talent, or give a chance to someone with a rising career, or think outside the box with casting more. |

| Wait, so you’re advocating for the end of Borle’s career? That would be tough on him. Two Tony awards and never to be cast again? | |

| A) Yes. Yes, by finding his casting as this role in this production, I am "advocating" for the "end of his career"... your ability to read between the lines of my post is truly uncanny. B) Yes. Sue me. We don't agree. I do wish he got cast less. He is cast A LOT. In mostly very major productions. I personally do not think his particular talents and abilities as a performer warrant him being cast in them all over other people or at the expense of other talents we don't see SO often in these roles. I'm not saying he shouldn't have a career or that other people don't clearly enjoy him way more than I have... but I'd also say, if I were a Tony voter he definitely wouldn't have gotten my vote for Something Rotten. Perhaps for Peter and the Starcatcher but possibly not. For whatever it's worth, we don't ALL like the same performers and we don't all agree with what the Tony's do, and we don't have to. Love him or don't love him, I think it's pretty hard to argue that there aren't more exciting and creative ways to cast the Baker than with him. |

| What are you talking about? In the 2016 - 2017 season, he did "Falsettos" followed by "Willy Wonka", and according to IBDB he was with that show until January 2018. I don't agree with Chazwaza that Borle is overexposed, but your response is just nonsense. | |

| Hasn’t been cast since. In other words, no one has made the decision to hire him in 5 years. That’s what Chazwaza had a problem with: hiring him. And it’s not like they’re haven’t been roles for him. He is suitable for Tootsie and Mrs Doubtfire. This idea that he’s getting all the roles is wrong. | |

| Really? Not cast since 2016?? Someone better tell everyone over at LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (not to mention City Center (ME AND MY GIRL) and about a half dozen or so different TV shows). | |

| Yeah, we read it, we just think it’s nonsense. Yes, you’ve created a very specific wording that is technically true (and also ignores that theater has been dead for 1.5 years), but that metric means pretty much nothing since Borle has been working non-stop (even while theater was dead for 1.5 years) and the original complaint wasn’t “Christian Borle is always being cast in Broadway musicals”. | |

| Yeah, Borle has a lot of nerve pursuing a theater career. The nerve. Is it his fault that directors and theaters like working with him? I saw him twice, in SOMETHING ROTTEN and PETER & THE STARCATCHER and he was terrific both times. |

| Umm... did I blame him? I certainly did not. I saw him in those too, as well as Falsettos, Spamalot, Legally Blonde and every episode of Smash, as well as Sound of Music and Sweeney Todd, and I'm sorry... I said what I said. |

| I think I know what you mean. I love him and have seen him in most or all of those things, as well as THROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. But I can see his performance in my head as clearly as if it was a memory of already seeing him do it. He'll be terrific, but certainly not as exciting as Headley and Bareilles. | |

| I hate to play this card... but isn't it time for a POC actor to play The Baker in a major revival of this show? If any production was going to do it, I would have expected it to be this one. |

| This is Encores. Not a major revival. However there has been several NYC productions and a movie in the last 20 years and Borle wasn’t cast in any of them. | |

| Encores is ABSOLUTELY "major"... This isn't about how many times Borle, specifically, has been cast in ITW... And again, love him or not, it doesn't change that he is very unexciting and predictable as a casting choice in this role, and no major production that I'm aware of has had a non-white Baker. Race aside, he is entirely predictable and boring as a choice. Sorry, this is my opinion. His not having been in it does not change how I feel about him being cast in this production. |

| I would too. But also the Baker doesn't require a powerhouse singer (and generally isn't cast with one), so the role is open to countless interesting possibilities of performers. There are many POC talents on and off broadway, who do or do not have Joshua Henry level vocal ability, who would have been exciting, or creative, or compelling, or just new visions of this role. |
