I think I know what you mean. I love him and have seen him in most or all of those things, as well as THROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. But I can see his performance in my head as clearly as if it was a memory of already seeing him do it. He'll be terrific, but certainly not as exciting as Headley and Bareilles.

I hate to play this card... but isn't it time for a POC actor to play The Baker in a major revival of this show?

If any production was going to do it, I would have expected it to be this one.

This is Encores. Not a major revival. However there has been several NYC productions and a movie in the last 20 years and Borle wasn’t cast in any of them.

Encores is ABSOLUTELY "major"...

This isn't about how many times Borle, specifically, has been cast in ITW...

And again, love him or not, it doesn't change that he is very unexciting and predictable as a casting choice in this role, and no major production that I'm aware of has had a non-white Baker. Race aside, he is entirely predictable and boring as a choice. Sorry, this is my opinion. His not having been in it does not change how I feel about him being cast in this production.

But you’re acting like he casts a lot. He hasn’t been cast in a Broadway show in 5 years and there have been many roles he’s been right for.

I would love to see Joshua Henry as the baker.

I hadn't considered that. Your post took my breath away! And now I'm upset at this casting, too!

I would too.

But also the Baker doesn't require a powerhouse singer (and generally isn't cast with one), so the role is open to countless interesting possibilities of performers. There are many POC talents on and off broadway, who do or do not have Joshua Henry level vocal ability, who would have been exciting, or creative, or compelling, or just new visions of this role.

I'd love to see Joshua Henry as Cinderella's Prince and the Wolf. :-)
