It's not that uncommon. Jerry Herman took a wonderful song called "Show Tune in 2/4" from his off-Broadway show Parade, and refashioined it as It's Today in Mame.

Herman’s “It Takes a Woman” and “We Need a Little Christmas” are essentially the same song, too.

Herman "repurposed" other folks' songs, too! NB "Bella Notte" from Lady and the Tramp and "Song on the Sand" from La Cage...
