I've watched the individual clips of the ladies from Sondheim's 80th a million times over the years. But tonight I saw the whole 30 minutes for the first time (with David Hyde Pierce!) and was enamoured again in a new way. My only issue...still...
Why does Bernadette Peters sing the same old "Not a Day Goes By"? She sounds incredible, and it's a lovely performance of the song, but we've seen her do it. So many times. It's essentially a signature of her's at this point, yes?
What other Sondheim songs "should" she be doing? What would surprise you, delightfully, to hear her do from his canon? I'll start.
I would have loved a "The Miller's Son." |
