| Yes, Carol Channing was "in the closet" regarding her heritage for many years, something like a real-life Julie from "Show Boat" but with a much more successful career. Perhaps that's another reason so many gays especially loved her. At any rate, she did "come out" eventually, and I would hope that many POCs would be happy to have her. Can you read people's minds who "they're looking to honor"? The heritage of hiding one's race for employment/nondiscrimination purposes is also part of that heritage---fortunately, one that has changed, and Carol was a huge star at any rate. She gave so much of herself to the theater. |
