Stockard Channing in 'Night, Mother!

That is a bit of casting I never would have come up with but I'd see it. It's happening at the Hampstead Theatre in London this fall.

Also at the Hampstead: Tamsin Greig in Peggy for You, a very entertaining solo show I saw yonks ago with Maureen Lipman. It's about the legendary British agent Peggy Ramsay (played by Vanessa Redgrave in the film Prick Up Your Ears.)

Quite a few intriguing things on in London this fall: Saoirse Ronan in The Scottish Play, Eddie Redmayne in Cabaret, new production of the musical of Spring Awakening.

I saw this place in London--at least, I know I saw a play about Peggy Ramsay and I thought it was this one. But in the play I saw, a young playwright (or actor?) who is visiting her office literally re-lays the large carpet while they are having a conversation, taking it all up and turning it around and re-laying it. It was an interesting bit of business that gave some physical action to a play that, set as it was in her office, didn't have much. Anyway, am I remembering a different play? I certainly remember that a lot of the play was Peggy Ramsay on the phone, but the one I saw had more than one actor in it. Unless...is there another play about Peggy Ramsay? Anyone have any ideas? What did I see? Thanks.

You saw "Peggy For You". The scene with the playwright and the carpet is in the second act.

I'd have loved to have seen Sandy Dennis in it. Eileen Heckart was the mother.

Are theaters running at full capacity?

"Are theaters running at full capacity?"

With a few exceptions, yes.

The first couple of weeks of The Memory Of Water at Hampstead - the show before 'Night, Mother, it opens next week - are socially distanced, but most theatres are operating at full capacity now.

Given the infection rate here, that is possibly not a good idea, particularly since people are being incredibly lazy and complacent about protecting themselves and each other. At Joseph... at the Palladium last Sunday - my first time back in a theatre since March last year - probably three-quarters of the audience didn't bother to wear a mask. That's not good enough.
