I first saw Andrew Rannells, 6 years before ''The Book of Mormon,'' in this Off-Off-Broadway spoof called ''It's Karate, Kid! The Musical.''

Written by Travis Kramer, it was called a ''musical raunch-fest'' by the N.Y. Times, and it won Best Musical Production and Choreography at the 2005 Innovative Awards, hosted by Charles Busch. The songs included ''Wax On, Wax Off'' and ''The Way of Fisting'' (''I'm the evil sensei. It's my evil dojo. I teach evil karate. I'm evil as a mo-fo''). If you want to hear them, they're posted at its website: itskaratekidthemusical.com. It also includes select quotes from its reviews. NewYorkCool.com raved: ''Andrew Rannells as the Vanilla Ice-swaggering Johnny, just about steals every scene he's in.''
