| Montgomery Clift (1920-1966) left behind a cinematic legacy that includes Oscar-caliber classics, like ''Red River'' (1948), ''The Heiress'' (1949), ''A Place in the Sun'' (1951) and ''From Here to Eternity'' (1953). Plus, he played Broadway many times, opposite the likes of the Lunts and Tallulah Bankhead, and originated roles in Tennessee Williams' ''You Touched Me'' and Thornton Wilder's ''The Skin of Our Teeth.'' But in recent memory, Clift's career has been somewhat overshadowed by the ''tragic gay'' narrative that he was a self-destructive, doomed, morose closet case. ''Making Montgomery Clift,'' written and directed by Robert Clift, his nephew, and Hillary Demmon, sets out to restore the fuller story and glory to this 4-time Oscar nominee.
