| The 4th paragraph from the Broadway League link you provided says: Exceptions are being made for children under 12 and people with a medical condition or closely held religious belief that prevents vaccination. These guests must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance start time, or a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within 6 hours of the performance start time. And then on the MTC page you linked, the second paragraph under "MTC's Samuel J Friedman Theatre" says: The only exception to the above will be for guests under the age of 12, or those who need reasonable accommodations due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief. Guests requesting an exemption must provide proof of at least one of the following, in addition to properly wearing a mask inside the building: - Negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance, or - Negative COVID-19 rapid antigen test taken within 6 hours of the performance. |

| Yes....& in the best of all worlds, if only all of us (vaccinated or unvacciated) heading into a theatre or other large venue could pass a CoVid test beforehand. Sad to say, that's for now how I would feel most safe. | |

| I'm sure someone will say this post is racist, and the whole thread will go off the rails, and messages (probably including this one) will be pruned or deleted. That disclaimer having been made, the first 2 of the 3 shows that Manhattan Theatre Club has slated for this season in their Broadway house, "Lackawanna Blues" and "Skeleton Crew", are largely if not entirely written, staged and performed by Black authors, directors and performers. (The 3rd is the long-delayed revival of "How I Learned to Drive" with Mary-Louise Parker and David Morse, but that doesn't open until March.) As of Sept. 1st, while New York State is hovering at around 70% of white residents having had at least one vaccine dose - that number drops down to 13% among African-Americans. This season was obviously scheduled last spring, before anyone knew what the vaccine rollout would look like, where the numbers would be come fall, and what the breakdown would be of vaccine skeptics and vaccine-hesitant; but the only logical conclusion one can draw is that MTC is worried that their walkup, last-minute and crossover numbers among non-white audiences - the kind of people who aren't season subscribers but presumably came out to see such plays as Choir Boy and Jitney in decent numbers - simply wouldn't be there if they sided with the Broadway League and required vaccinations for all attendees. (Naturally, my only question would be, regardless of what the demographic makeup of audiences might hypothetically be, how the audience as a whole, in particular their season subscribers who tend to be older, will feel about this policy.... I can guarantee my parents, anxious even about attending indoor theater with vaccinated audiences, won't be going to MTC as long as this policy is in effect, and I admit it definitely makes me slightly more apprehensive as well). If anyone else has another theory I'd love to hear it... particularly since their off-Broadway space, scheduled to present 3 plays about white characters and with predominantly white casts, WILL require full vaccination. |

| As you now can see, the information on which your theory was based is incorrect but it's worth noting that your premises are also incorrect in two material respect. First, I don't know where you saw that 13% nonsense but it is wrong. Blacks in NYC are 40% 1st shot vaccinated (whites are 51%). (All other ethnicities are higher.) Second, the notion that black plays at MTC attract black audiences is ill-informed. Equally ill-informed is the notion that all blacks or whites in NYC are potential audiences members. In fact, sadly, a large share of the unvaccinated are poor, and that's what they have in common. And guess what? Very very few poor people don't go to Broadway shows, even with discounts, even for free. Nice try but racist ideas never end up well. | |

| Called it. I’m not sure what you mean by “As you can see the information on which you based your theory was incorrect” – I was on their website earlier, and it absolutely said that proof of a negative test was enough fir general audiences, so MTC did indeed change their policy between the afternoon and evening, and as you may not have seen (I don’t know what was deleted from this thread and what wasn’t), others have confirmed that the information on that site was modified to bring it in line with the Broadway League’s general policies. As far as implying I’m racist or even have “racist ideas” (that never end well, oh hahaha) - I’m not going to even dignify that remark with a response. Except to say that while you know I’ve often disagreed with you, I’m glad I don’t actually know you. |

| A friendly reminder that we all have racist ideas, and acknowledging that - rather than being defensive or appalled at the idea - is the first step in creating a truly antiracist society. Ibram X. Kendi's "How to Be an Antiracist" is a very illuminating book about how racism runs through all of us and what we can do to make meaningful societal change. |

| I had no idea who Professor Kendi was until you began mentioning him in your posts. Recently he has made some appearances on MSNBC, in particular on Morning Joe. He's an interesting guy, very respectful, deliberate, and measured. I was impressed that he defended General Mark Milley against attacks by U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz. I wonder if he would consider writing a play based on How to Be an Antiracist in a form similar to Heidi Schreck's What the Constitution Means to Me. |

| First of all I was not implying you are a racist but the ideas you were passing along, borne as they were of false "data" that we have come to expect of those trying to sell racist ideas and which I assume you just read somewhere, certainly were. And you of course prefaced your post with the defensive observations about racism. Let's move on from this; it is not my intention to take this thread off the rails. Second, I do not doubt that MTC had originally posted the alternative (and quickly changed it) but I think it was simply a sloppy mistake rather than some nefarious marketing plan. MTC does not get to set the policy on this: it is contrary to what they can legally do in NYC and their agreements with their unions. It is not just a matter of "not going along with" the League which is a non-entity in this context. If you want to apply a back story you can but I think it is far-fetched. I also think, as others have said and you have referenced, that MTC is going to have a challenging time drawing a healthy audience, as is almost everyone as folks navigate how they feel about sitting in a confined space for a relatively long time. I think this is particularly true for a good chunk of MTC's demographic. | |

| “I’m not going to even respond to you but I’m going to respond to you!” “I know this thread is going to get some responses…!” And then, after it gets responses, “See? I told you!” Complete with condescending sigh! The mind reels. Being glad you don’t know ryhog isn’t half as upsetting, I’m sure, as the fact that ryhog clearly knows you. |

| The day she tweeted support of Cosby the Manhattan Theater Club facebook post of their season was filled with people saying they would not subscribe this season. Just pages and pages of comments. Maybe lots of people dropped out and they are worried about filling the theater? |
