Are Broadway shows planning to keep casts and crews in a bubble? I hadn't heard that.

No, and I think if you look again, I did not suggest that. I confess I could have written more clearly, "none of these casts and crews [at either location]" ...

I guess I was not clear enough in the part that S/F responded to either. I did not intend to understate the risk of spread but to compare the risk in the two places. I don't think it is controversial to say that the data shows that vaccination reduces risk of both infection and, a fortiori, spread, and the relative numbers in Saint Louis County and New York County bear that out. What I was trying to emphasize (and apparently was unsuccessful) was the relative risk, but I thought I had been reasonably clear that "the same thing could certainly happen to a Broadway show." And I am guessing (someone correct me if I am wrong) that mask compliance is lower and other protocols (e.g., vaccine requirement for theatre, indoor dining, gyms, etc.) are also lower or non-existent. I am not at all trying to suggest complacency in NYC, but simply to explain that the data makes it a lower risk place to invest huge sums of money in making theatre.

As someone who teaches at a liberal arts college in New York City where Covid is running rampant even though the school claims to have an 80% vaccination rate among its students, I think ryhog is underestimating how easily it is for these flare ups to happen.

I agree with you. I think it is far easier to catch than people may realize. I've spoken about that before on this board as a vaccinated person who tested positive.

Fauci on occasion has mention this occurrence, but does not repeat it every day -- vaccinated people who get a little sick (they assume it's just a cold or a mild case of the flu) do not always seek to have a covid test performed. They just ride it out until they get better.

Unfortunately that means that there is no definitive way to know how many breakout cases are really happening and thus spreading to other unvaccinated individuals.
