I could not disagree with this review more. I also saw the film in Toronto as part of the Toronto Film Fest. Having seen play the part off broadway and on, I went into the screening expecting the worst...and I am happy to report that I was pleasantly surprised. The film does an excellent job of opening up the musical onto the screen. And while everyone was mocking Ben's wig and age when the trailer dropped, the wig isn't too noticeable throughout the movie...you get used to it. A bigger problem is his make up - foundation can be seen throughout. And while the new song,
The Anonymous Ones is a probably the weakest of the entire score, the score is performed beautifully.
Best news, especially for many ATC "critics" - the ending has been changed to reflect some of the criticism, so I think many people will be pleased.
Bottom line: Do. Not. Miss. Especially if you're a fan of Ben or the show.
