She was great dancing with Fred Astaire in "Royal Wedding" and Gene Nelson in "Three Sailors and A Girl", as well as her most famous film "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers". She could also sing jazzier songs as well. She was hired by MGM for producer Joe Pasternak to guide her towards being the type of major singing star Deanna Durbin he had helped become when he was at Universal. In fact, at least one of Powell's films was a color remake of one of Durbin's. Powell could really dance, which distinguished her as well as her lovely presence and her wonderful singing voice. Like Deanna, she lived a long life too! When movie roles dried up, she did move on to tv and did a lot of theater. I always loved her movies. Rest in peace.
