March was investigated by HUAC, was well known as an actor who was a part of progressive, if not socialist, circles. International socialism of the 1930's doesn't necessarily mean anti-racism but it usually did as anti-racism was a central plank of its platform particularly in the US.

If March was briefly a member of a racist organizaiton as a youth then there needs to be due dilligence in proving that the group was indeed racist. If not, then I agree that the University of Wisconsin needs to apologize for its removal of March's name from the theater and more importantly the University needs to educate its students in the history of American progressive movements that March was a cultural representative of.
