The more I read articles like this, the more I understand one aspect of the rise of Trumpism. The self-righteous, often fact-light attacking of person after person whether for racism, or sexism or harassment or antisemitism or homophobia or transphobia with seemingly little differentiation between mild inappropriateness and illegality, without any consideration of context or intent, with no defense allowed, has created more and more people who just turn away and don't want to hear any of it any more. People have just turned themselves off to legitimate complaints when they see things like this. People who spearhead things like this can be thanked for creating a small militant group of allies while ensuring that widespread social change will never happen because they've created even more people who just don't want to be part of any of this. We saw it with Mackintosh a few weeks ago - countless attacks on him due to social media posts from people intentionally twisting what he actually said while also intentionally excising from their reporting everything that was said that would have undermined what they were trying to achieve.
