It's true that reactionary, intolerant responses like this one undermine the larger effort towards restorative justice, but it's also true that Richmond just took down their Robert E. Lee monument, which I would say is a huge sign of widespread social change.

Meanwhile, laying the rise of Trumpism at the feet of those who are calling out racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia strikes me as akin to blaming a person for being raped because of how they are dressed rather than blaming the rapist: let us keep our sights on those who say and do racist and sexist things, holding them accountable for the rise of racist and sexist movements.
