David Collison, who, for many years was the most prominent theatre sound designer in the West End, has recently self-published a memoir, Namedropping in the Wings. In it, he quotes Jack Mann, the sound designer for Follies, saying, "There's no interval in this turkey. If you let the audience out, they won't come back." I rather doubt he expressed this opinion to Hal Prince.
