| I'm 99% certain that Kingspeed is right that grammatically it should be considered a singular entity, but you are right that colloquially we often refer to it as a plural. We should say "The Tonys is on", but that sounds weird, so we default to the plural. See also "The Tony Awards are brought to you by..." - technically, it really should be the Tony Awards is brought to you (because the awards are collected as a singular event, i.e. "this broadcast is brought to you"), but that seems wrong. Grammar is funny. |
