He played Boy from Oz with a 102 degree fever. As he admitted, he went on 8 times a week, sometimes vocally taxed but still always there*. Sept 16, 2003 - Sept. 12 2004. I'd place money on his participation being on par with Midler's, who only missed one performance during her entire gig. (Yes, she had vacations, but announced, never sold as Midler Dolly performances, i.e. the Murphy attendees purchased seats to see Donna in the role; no surprises.) Hugh Jackman has been training for this role.
*I don't believe Jackman's Oz standbys, Kevin Spirtas or Michael Halling ever went on. Can anyone confirm? |
