I have watched the film of Persuasion many many times. It captures Austen's tone more accurately than any other adaptation, in my opinion. but I (dumbly) had no idea Michell was a stage director in London! THAT explains why Simon Russell Beale and Fiona Shaw, among other great stage actors, have roles in the film. Beale in particular doesn't make very many.
