But I wasn’t really familiar with his songs so I didn’t really feel like a jukebox musical. But I will say that the songs were pretty much the least interesting aspect of the show. Didn’t stop the show but didn’t really help much. The story itself of that ny neighborhood, civil war “recruitment” and turning in runaway slaves was really more interesting. I could see it winning the tony for book and nothing else. But I saw it at Berkeley rep about 3 years ago and I assume they have been tinkering with it since.
