I was in college when I saw the 1967 revival in a preview at Lincoln Center. The audience excitement at the showstopping (and new) Old-Fashioned Wedding was palpable. Did I care that Merman was decades too old for the part? Hell, no. I was seeing Merman live in full throttle in Annie Get Your Gun!!
