Assuming that everyone has access to streaming is steeped in privilege. There are still wide swaths of this country that do not have access to broadband. Until last year, my mother was on a satellite internet service that didn't support streaming (too slow; would also have been expensive because it was not "unlimited" like so many other services). Her cell service was also expensive and spotty. There was no competition to bring prices down or speeds up. Where she lived was only 7 miles from the city limits of a midsize town of about 15,000, but the cable company stopped service at the city limits. The only reason it's not a problem for her now? She decided to downsize and move from that area after living there for over 30 years, and the place she moved to has broadband.

Streaming is a game-changer for entertainment. However, taking programming away from over-the-air television leaves out millions of people.
