''My audiences (both times!) insisted on laughing and/or applauding every time a new song got name-checked''
I've seen ''Moulin Rouge!'' multiple times, and that always happens. It's built into its DNA. To many, it IS funny and surprising to see these characters from the turn-of-the-20th-century France break into contemporary pop songs. The audience has a blast hearing these tunes sung in another context.
I hope ''Moulin Rouge!'' wins Orchestrations, among many others. Justin Levine and his team deserve a prize for weaving 71 songs into the show. |
