Lopez paid a touching tribute to 3 gay writers who changed his life: E.M. Forster, who wrote ''Howards End,'' the inspiration for ''The Inheritance''; Terrence McNally, who was a mentor to him, and Miguel Pinero, the first Puerto Rican playwright (''Short Eyes'') to be produced on Broadway.
