| Michigan's Musical Theatre program continues to inspire awe and admiration, and this fall welcomes a new department chair, Broadway's Michael McElroy. Annual videos -- from a live performance at the fall semester's annual department meeting -- have become a yearly YouTube phenomenon. The new seniors take the stage to introduce themselves and reflect (often humorously) over the last four years. If you're hoping for some optimism about the future of musical theatre, sit back and enjoy this year's newest edition. it's stunning. Truly, just absurd levels of talent from these people. A major highlight is a gospel-inspired arrangement of "Sunday," which pays homage to Mr. McElroy's own arrangement style (for Broadway Inspirational Voices and their series, Broadway Our Way). Start at the 18:00 minute mark and you'll hear the tribute to past department chairs who paved the way. And then if you're eager for more, scroll back through the last several years of videos to see any number of people who are now in the midst of exciting careers. If you make it all the way back to 2007 you'll see the year when (UMich alumni) Benj Pasek & Justin Paul helped take the senior entrance to the next level... and this tradition has only grown from there.
