Elizabeth Stanley was never meant to be in the re-opening cast either, having just given birth last month. (She's apparently hoping/planning to return sometime next year.)
So maybe their performing together one last time was so that the Tony audience could see the original cast, as would've happened in a typical year, maybe it was because their replacements have not yet had adequate rehearsal time, or maybe it was a way of giving them all closure after having the rug ripped out from under them 18 months ago.
(I did think the replacement for Karen Olivo looked sensational in the Moulin Rouge segment, but then that show has begun performances already.) |
