I thought the second act of Slave Play was way too long. And then, at the end of the play, I wasn't completely sure I understood the central message of the last act. Someone, either here or at BWW, started a thread that basically said, "Can someone explain what we are supposed to take away from the third act of Slave Play?" And I and a bunch of other people chimed in that we didn't understand it, either. And there was some confusion until someone really eloquently explained why the characters did what they did and what the central thesis was, and I thought, "Wow, that is really powerful and really interesting. But... why is someone explaining that to me on a message board? Isn't the playwright supposed to be doing that?"

As Delvino said, the craft just wasn't where it could have been.
