| While I've seen over 1,000 musicals in my life, I have admittedly ignored many classic plays. I only see a few plays each year. This weekend, I will finally see a production of OUR TOWN, at CCM in Cincinnati. Very much looking forward to it, as CCM always puts out great productions and performers. It reminds me of the abandoned musical version of Our Town - GROVER'S CORNERS, by Schmidt and Jones. I've heard the score and it is just delightful. My favorite score by them. The tone of the music and lyrics just seems to be a perfect fit for the musical. The story of how it was developed, and why it was abandoned, have been covered here and elsewhere in pretty great detail, but I do hope that the S&J musical version will one day see the light of day (and a full recording). I'll let you know how the CCM version is on Saturday. Scott |
