There was also a good treatment of the plays in 1993, when they did excerpts from the four nominated plays presented as stages of production, so we saw K. Todd Freeman auditioning with a monologue for "The Song of Jacob Zulu"; Jane Alexander, Madeline Kahn, and Robert Klein doing a table read for "The Sisters Rosensweig"; Michael York and David Dukes doing rough blocking from "Someone Who'll Watch Over Me"; and then a fully produced scene in tech rehearsal with Ron Leibman and Kathleen Chalfant from "Angels in America".
I watched those scenes over and over and still can vividly recall those performances. |
