Your point is a good one and I've never understood why the powers that be at the broadcast seem so focused on getting "regular" people to watch. There is nothing that anyone could do to convince people who are not interested in Broadway theatre to watch a 3 or 4 hour broadcast dedicated specifically to that. Instead of trying to attract a mass audience that is never going to watch, they should focus on putting on the best show they can do that is aimed squarely at Broadway theatre fans, the only people who will actually ever be watching.

If word starts getting around that the annual Tony broadcast is the best, most entertaining awards show on TV (as once was the case), then maybe people who've heard tell of it might tune it to check it out, just for curiosity value, even if they don't have much interest in Broadway.
