It is of course the right thing to do to close down the show if necessary, but I worry a little bit that if this keeps happening, that will start making tourists question how a New York trip is going to be end up shaking out. Fingers crossed for several reasons that performances can keep happening as scheduled.

I can't imagine in the long term that shows will be cancelled anytime a cast member has covid. Everything I have read indicates that covid is never going to be erradicated and cast members are never going to stop getting it. Depending on how further mutations go, and how covid cases affect those who are vaccinated (which we know so far is less sickness and miniscule chance of death), I imagine a day when shows carry on as they did in the past when cast members got sick with the flu or other infections.

that's exactly the protocol. The only difference with the flu is that with rapid covid testing infections can be identified before the person has the chance to infect a bunch of people. I think the only reason there was a cancellation is that the show just started and the understudy coverage was lagging. Note that at least 2 other shows have had cases without cancellations.
