"The Best Live Show of All Time", said... someone?

The banner ad for "David Byrne's American Utopia" blasts this hyperbolic quote, but it attributes it to no one. Not a critic, not an audience member, not even a Tweet. Just the words surrounded by quotation marks and then the title of the show.

Their website offers no further clarification, offering us: "The best live show of all time". Right on time.

So now we have a quote, not attributed, and then a follow-up slogan. Am I missing something? Is this an iconic Byrne lyric? Was this said somewhere that we all should just know? Or have we reached a new era in advertising?

“ Am I missing something?”

Constantly.

Wow, someone is still bitter and deals with that by trying to tear down others. So you're that person, got it.

This reminds me of the recurrent segment Letterman did where he would send Biff around NYC to places with signs saying "the best coffee [or something else] in New York" and have him ask the person behind the counter how they went about determining that.

It's been a trick over the years in film releases of films with mostly or all bad reviews to have a positive review quote from at least someone known for giving good reviews to everything (perhaps for some kind of fee and/or just because they like having their name in print) from usually some very little-known publication.

Of course, David Merrick notoriously ingenious trick of wining and dining people with the same name as famous NY critics of the time, who would then give great reviews to the previously not-that-well-received "Subways Are Sleeping" is a classic. It did get by in one newspaper edition before being pulled.

Thanks! Interesting that the Byrne Ep includes an ellipses before the shortened quote and credits it to NME, both of which have disappeared in this new marketing campaign.

I echo Ann that, at the very least, this is misleading.

I've seen it credited to magazine NME with the full quote being “just may be the best live show of all time..."

And I read a reference to that full quote being up on the theater, but I don't remember it myself.
