| I had a good time at yesterday's matinee, though perhaps I didn't enjoy the show as much as others here did. There's a shift in tone in the second half that needs to be blended more smoothly into the piece. We go from broad farce to family drama, it seems. Perhaps this will smooth out in previews. The playwright is a witty observer and his characters are sharply drawn, and played just as sharply. Michael Urie is one of our best comic/character actors. He's created a detailed and singular character in every show he's done. I was happy to be back at a Saturday matinee, even when most of the audience had dressed for a picnic in Central Park. |
