| I couldn’t disagree with you more. When I attended recently Hades town which includes the wonderful Andre D. And other black actors but I did not notice one African American audience member. Nowadays when we hear the word diversity it just means equal representation of African-Americans with other cultures. Well both the Asian community and Hispanic community has a higher percentage of Americans and they are never included in this diversity. Unless Denzel Washington is in a play African-Americans stay away and it is a shame that the wonderful successful black actors like Audra McDonald do absolutely nothing to expand the audience diversity. In terms of theater I think the white race learns more about the black race by attending their plays than the black race learns anything about the white race because they don’t attend plays whether written by white people or Asian people or black people. If you think this play is good you should go see it because you want to have a good time not because there are all black people involved in the production. This year as far as I know the only seven dramatic plays deal with African-American culture and they are just 12% of the population. True equality in the United States will never exist until diversity in its true nature exists both on the stage and in business as well as in the audience. | |
