So much to unpack there, but here’s an easy place to start: in our White-dominant culture, Black people and other POC don’t have to seek out stories about White people to learn about White culture because they are literally surrounded by it every day everywhere they look.
As for Black audience members, maybe your performance of Hadestown didn’t have any Back folk in the crowd, but over at Pass Over - you know, a show by and about Black people - the audience was noticeably diverse (there were even some Asians!), and Denzel was nowhere to be seen. |
