And as Mrs. Paroo in "The Music Man".....

...Rosie O'Donnell. Am I late to the fair (parade) on this bit of casting? Or is my (reliable) information a scoop?

Although Rosie O'Donnell is Irish ... she comes across as "tough" and "lower class" which Mrs. Paroo shouldn't be. I hope they cast a real actress in the role and not a "celebrity".

Actually, Rosie isn't a bad actress, in fact her Golda in Fiddler on the Roof exuded a lot of warmth and motherly love.

I agree. All of her film work is nuanced. She was fine in Fiddler, overcoming the impression of stunt casting.

It's not like Pert Kelton was the epitome and grace and elegance, and she was excellent.

But Pert Kelton -- at least as Mrs. Paroo -- was warm and charming. Unfortunately Rosie O'Donnell has never come across that way -- to my way of thinking. Just my 2 cents...

Do you understand acting? An actor isn't doomed to only play the role as how they come off in real life. An Rosie has many many acting credits to her name. She's not just a celebrity.

Rewatch any of her films. She’s quite accomplished, and always authentic. She acted before she was a chat celeb.

No need to be so condescending... yes I understand acting - I understand it very well. Rosie O'Donnell -- doesn't exude warmth or charm or sweetness --- qualities necessary for Mrs. Paroo. Please - there's no need for your condescending remarks... this is all just a matter of opinion to which everyone is entitled.

You still don’t get it. The actress playing Paroo doesn’t need to exude charm or sweetness. She can a total bitch in real life. She just needs to ACT like she has charm and sweetness, something Rosie is talented enough to do.

She was actually quite good. Very in character. No mugging. She clearly took the job seriously.

So far, it's a scoop. Nothing official has been announced. Rosie did play Mrs. Paroo at the Kennedy Center with Norm Lewis as Harold Hill and Jessie Mueller as Marian Paroo.

Take care,
Jason

Well, Marie Mullen is still listed on Playbill.com as Mrs. Paroo. ;-)

Take care,

Mullen is also on the Telecharge page. Another vote for a "confused" OP.

What a missed opportunity to give a BIPOC actor an actual part in this all-white-main-characters revival.

What happened to Marie Mullen?

Please, God, no. In the name of all things holy. Could this production get any whiter? Plus, nooooooooooooo!

Possible you’re confusing Mrs. Paroo for Mrs. Brice? We know she wants that role. She’d be awful at that one, too.

She was actually very good in the role at the Kennedy Center a few years ago. But to answer your question. No. No it can't.
