I saw it on Monday. It has many good points, including some beautiful music, a very interestingly portrayed mother -- relationship, and a powerful depiction of the ugly impact of sexual abuse on a young life. Against that, I thought the climactic scene wasn't as gripping as it should be; it doesn't build to a pitch of emotion that one wants at that moment. Also, for the first time in my experience, the entire cast seemed overwhelmed by the Met orchestra, to the point that at times they were difficult to hear. Whether this is due to the sweeping orchestrations or to a cast that isn't used to projecting in that enormous house, I'm not sure. But I bet that seeing it in the cinema may be the best way to enjoy it.
