I was also there Monday (front of Family Circle), and didn't notice more than one or two times where the orchestra covered the singers, and just at very thickly scored times. There are a handful of debutants in the cast, but the principals and the majority of the rest aren't new to the house.
The ending, I think, suits the text. The emotional heights are earlier (and the final scene is picking up where the opening scene left off); the end is about moving on. |
