| I just re-watched the Youtube video of Cynthia Eviro's breath-taking rendition of "Don't Rain On My Parade," filmed at the Hollywood Bowl, with the LA Philharmonic. What a beautiful performance. Then I thought of watching Beanie F. in "Impeachment." Impressive performance. Good at portraying vulnerabliity and despair. I had seen Beanie in "Booksmart," and I have heard her sing in the on-screen tribute to Sondheim on the occasion of his 90th birthday. I have seen the recent photo of Feldstein costumed in what looks like Pointer Sister thrift shop attire, a publicity shot for the upcoming revival of Funny Girl on Broadway. I have this lurching feeling that the producers of this revival have made a mistake. It is hard to believe that Feldstein will be able to put numbers like "Don't Rain" across with the same kind of fire that Eviro achieved. I guess we'll never know what Lauren Ambrose would have done in the part. Bartlett Sher was supposed to have selected her to star in a revival that never came off, but, having seen and heard her in "My Fair Lady," I can't really imagine how she would have sung "Don't Rain." |
