I think we can have a nuanced conversation around dark make-up versus blackface, but my understanding is that conversation tends to be related to people darkening their natural shades by a few degrees. In some cases, that may or may not dip into a form of black or brownface, and that's where the line gets hazy.

But that's very different than what Olivier does, where he has his entire body slathered in a monotonous shade of alabaster that makes him look more like a living statue than a person. It is so far beyond the idea of dark make-up that the comparison doesn't hold.
