| I'd love to be more generous, but that only bears a passing resemblance to the show. None of the singular power is there, even with the constraints of the Macy's Parade style of staging. We're not allowed to evoke the original without provoking wrath, but sorry: what the first staging did was so immediate and theatrically sharp. This feels like a college production. (Not a new topic: but why are the costumes so unattractive? And unflattering? They look like rehearsal clothes. On a rainy day in NYC.) | |
