I agree that Spielberg's "We needed .. " is disingenuous, since it's clearly not a "Latin(whatever letter you want)" production. But what I'm not sure I understand is why does it have to be? It doesn't claim to be ABOUT the Puerto Rican experience. It's about the consequences of the gang warfare between ethnic groups. What is wrong with a group of white Jews telling this story? Does it somehow PREVENT actual Hispanics from making their own movie about their experience? Why can't both exist?
