| Elsewhere, defenders keep explaining, "It's supposed to look cramped!" as if we didn't gasp the concept, and that creative intention alone dismisses the problem with the number's awkward presentation on GMA. Placing it on the empty street rather than in the studio was a terrible decision by a GMA segment producer, eliminating any theatricality in lighting or the needed suspension of disbelief that we're seeing Broadway. It's several rungs below the care given the Macy's songs, and made the show look under rehearsed and ill considered. Note: you can be an admirer of the production and still feel crushingly disappointed by the way it was represented on GMA. No one is a hater for simply wishing the opportunity had not been squandered. |
