I was planning to be in the area December 31 - January 10. I was going to visit friends as well as to see shows. A friend who lives in Manhattan was going to be away and offered to let me use his place, which was very nice of him.
After a lot of consideration, I decided to cancel the trip. I did so because I could get all of my airline miles back and because I was uncertain as to whether the shows I would see would make the trip worthwhile.
For context, I've seen all of the long-running shows I wanted to see, and am not that interested in many of the new shows. I would like to see Company, as it is my favorite musical, though even after reading reviews I'm still uncertain as to whether it will work for me. Also, I wanted to see Morning's at Seven and had bought a ticket for it. Unfortunately, it closed, but my ticket was refunded promptly.
I was not particularly worried about COVID. I am fully vaccinated and mask-wearing is not an issue for me. I planned to travel to DC on New Year's Eve to visit friends there, so being in Times Square that evening was not in the plans.
I did wonder whether the added hassle might make me regret a winter trip. As of now, I'm looking at a spring trip.
