It is a part of the story it tells yes, but it isn't the story and it isn't *about* that. Of course I agree.
But people are starting to talk about it and describe it as if it is a show that is specifically and only about a group of Puerto Rican immigrants and tells the story of their experience as immigrants in America. This is just not an accurate way to summarize West Side Story, and it's not appropriate to expect from it the things you'd expect/hope for from a play/movie that description would describe (and not that it be dismissed because no Puerto Ricans were involved in the creation of the play). |
